Filesystem Capacity Agent

The Orb Data Agent for Filesystem Capacity is built on IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6.2.2 Agent Builder technology, it monitors the space available on a Server's filesystems.

Filesystem Capacity

For each filesystem the agent compares determine the disk space available and compares it to warning and critical thresholds. If the threshold is breached an ITM Situation is triggered with a reference to the filesystem concerned.

Threshold values are specified as either a percentage or an absolute value of disk space used. The values can be checked using a variety of methods, including comparison to previous values.

Features and Benefits

  • Granular configuration on a per-server basis
  • Any number of filesystems can be monitored
  • Absolute and Percentage comparison methods
  • Support for per-filesystem monitoring schedules, e.g 9am to5pm Monday to Friday
  • Support for local response actions
  • Optional Integration with Orb Data Self-Service Portal

Situations

The following situations are supplied with the agent:

Situation Severity Description
KU1_Filesystem_Critical CRITICAL Space available on a Filesystem has reached a critical level
KU1_Filesystem_Warning WARNING Space available on a Filesystem has reached a warning level

Configuration

The agent can be configured to monitor different filesystems on each server it runs on, this is done through local configuration files.

The agent can optionally read multiple configuration files to determine what it should monitor, this means that filesystems can be specified in their own separate configuration files. In this way an individual configuration file could be used for just the filesystems associated with a particular application, or those assigned to a particular HA resource group.

Support

Version 1.1 of the agent supports the following operating systems:

AIX 32/64 bit

Linux Intel 2.4

Solaris 32/64 bit SPARC

Windows 32/64 bit

Linux Intel 2.6

Linux 64 bit x86
