The Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication or "SWIFT" operate a financial messaging network named SwiftNET. This network enables the secure exchange of transactional messages between banks and financial institutions across the globe. SWIFT has become the industry standard for syntax in financial messaging accepted throughout the world.

SWIFT markets software and services to financial institutions, much of it to enable the use of the SwiftNet Network.  A prime example of this is Swift Alliance Access, the market leading product in interfacing between business applications and SWIFT messaging services.

Due to vitally important role of SWIFT, it is imperative that the each component of the service is correctly monitored in order to ensure the maximum availability. Any error reported by SWIFT must be reported immediately to the correct support team. The result of an error going unnoticed could be the loss of financial transaction messages. 

Monitoring Agent for Swift Alliance

The Orb-Data SWIFT Alliance monitoring agent is built on IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6.2.2 Agent Builder technology. The agent provides monitoring for not only the SWIFT environment but also EMC RepliStor. The following monitoring is provided through the Orb-Data Swift Alliance Agent:

• Monitoring of the SWIFT environment via SNMP trap feed.
• Monitoring of RepliStor exceptions via SNMP trap feed.
• Monitoring of processes local to the agent, such as Swift Alliance Gateway, Swift Alliance Access Server, Swift Alliance Console, etc.

SNMP Trap Monitoring

The agent includes an SNMP trap receiver configured to accept and handle traps based on the SAA and the RepliStor MIB (Management Information Base) files. These MIB files contain trap formats and definitions for all SWIFT Alliance Access/Entry and EMC RepliStor notifications respectively. The agent displays all received traps in two workspaces aptly named "SWIFT Events" and "RepliStor Events".

Default situations are included with the agent. Active situations are shown in the relevant workspace.

Swift Alliance Agent Situations

 The Swift Alliance agent includes a set of default ITM6 situations. These situations will fire against any Severe or Warning message received from RepliStor and any Error, Fatal or Warning message received from Swift Alliance. Default situations are also included for the process monitoring data source. Situations fire against any Critical or Warning state recognised by the process monitoring data provider.
