Can Predictive Analytics really predict the future?

I've just read an excellent book by Robert Harris called the Fear Index. In the book a computer scientist called Dr Alex Hoffmann has developed a revolutionary form of artificial intelligence that tracks human emotions via internet news feeds , enabling it to predict movements in the financial markets with uncanny accuracy. In the story his hedge fund, based in Geneva, makes billions. The book is listed as a work of fiction but the technology used in it is not. Predictive Analytics Software that analyses how one metric affects and relates to another is available today and being used in many large organisations.

Software Licensing Dangers in a Virtualised World

IBM currently uses over 10 metrics to license its Tivoli software. This alone might make keeping track of your licenses difficult enough but with the advent of Virtualisation this can make your licensing a full time job.

Dawn of the Dead (Computer)

Movies that include computers are notoriously inaccurate. Who can forget the girl from  Jurassic park shouting 'it's a Unix system' as the velociraptors broke through the door or the graphical skyscraper directory listing from Hackers. Enjoyable films perhaps, but not fantastically plausible.  So maybe I can put make a suggestion for a new film that could perhaps be called "Dawn of the Dead Computer" that is not only accurate but based on a true story.
