Predict Performance Problems before they occur

IBM have recently used some of the Watson technology in a new product called Predictive Insights to provide early problem detection by forecasting application or infrastructure issues before they impact service.

Predictive Insights learns the normal behaviour of every component and correlates seemingly unlinked data and because of this helps avoid outages by letting you know, in advance, if something may be about to behave abnormally. Once one of these issues have been detected the product can use Watson to understand every relevant manual and knowledge base to provide detailed expert advice.

We have been asked by a few companies over the last few years if they can use TADDM to quickly discover the devices they have in a data center before either moving to the cloud or closing data centers due to consolidation. In addition MSPs have requested the ability to discover the devices of a new customer before actively bidding on new work. The answer for a long time had been “no”, but recently things have changed.

This article discusses how IBM's new licensing model and a rapid deployment approach can make this possible.

Integrate Netcool and Service Now

Over the last few months we have been engaged by several customers to help with their Netcool integration into ServiceNow. The links below discuss 3 of these requests:

  1. Installing the new Java gateway to connect OMNIbus and ServiceNow together.
  2. Enriching Netcool with data from the ServiceNow CMDB while minimizing the number of SOAP calls.
  3. Using data from a ServiceNow CMDB to create a  DASH service topology view and understand the impact of events.

Use Orb Data's Remote Support to Reduce Implementation Costs

For the last 5 years Orb Data has been running a remote support service in which we perform all or part of the tasks of some customer's in-house Tivoli/Netcool support teams.

Recently we have been asked for quotes for the remote support service and also for a price for a separate consultancy based project. In these instances we have been able to vastly reduce the consultancy costs.
