Self Service for IBM Tivoli Monitoring

Invitation to a webinar: Orb Data’s Self Service Portal (SSP) for Enterprise System Monitoring (ESM) is integrated with IBM’s Tivoli Monitoring. It provides a new way of delivering monitoring services within an organisation, allowing for the definition and maintenance of consistent monitoring standards, the flexibility to optimise monitoring according to specific needs, the improvement of service quality and agility, while at the same time adhering to corporate security and audit requirements

You can find out more about this unique way of managing the complexity of an ESM deployment from this overview. But we’d rather show you the benefits first hand, and would like to invite you to a webinar - date to be confirmed.

If you’d like to attend, please complete the registration form.

We will cover how the Orb Data Self-Service Portal (SSP) can streamline your Enterprise Monitoring environment. Discover how the responsive SSP web interface provides a single view of management resources, from IBM Tivoli Monitoring (ITM) through to custom in-house tools. See how SSP removes the bottlenecks traditionally found in Enterprise System Management by allowing end users to control their own monitoring.

Why?

With over 13 years of working with IBM Tivoli automation products, we at Orb Data have identified the following recurring challenges in many enterprises:

The Challenges

ESM teams are overloaded with requests to define and change systems monitors, have manual and time consuming methods to do this, and lack the control processes required to adhere to corporate standards and compliance policies. Some companies give relative novices access to IBM Tivoli Monitoring, and risk system issues due to ad hoc changes and lack of expertise.

Most companies decide to deny access and involvement to the very people who really know the applications that require monitoring (the subject matter experts). Similarly, those people most familiar with new project requirements for monitoring, are also excluded for a lack of expertise. Denial of access is for a good reason, but at the same time this creates a problem for the ESM team, who are required to absorb ever increasing requirements whilst continuing support and development of the ESM infrastructure.

Some organizations have already recognised these challenges, and have sought to manufacture an in-house solution to solve the problem. This introduces a whole new set of problems with escalating cost, inflexibility and maintainability.

The Answers

SSP is a web- based application with a simple, intuitive browser front end. It provides self service for the definition and management of monitoring standards, capabilities, configurations and versions at project enrolment, and during the entire ESM lifecycle. It offers rich reporting and granular access so that common ESM tasks can be performed in a secure, reliable and controlled manner, with a complete audit trail for compliance purposes. SSP currently provides integration with IBM Tivoli Monitoring, and future integrations will include IBM Netcool/OMNIbus for probe configuration management, as well as for tools from other mainstream software vendors.

The Benefits

  • Rapid and reliable deployment of monitoring standards
  • Best practice monitoring controlled by Subject Matter Experts
  • Verification of current monitoring configuration eradicating false alerts
  • Corrective actions taken directly from within the web interface
  • No disruption caused by unmanaged changes
  • Thorough auditing and reporting
