I’ve been having fun and games with Netcool/OMNIbus v7.4 over the past few weeks since GA. The new release is continuing the slow plod to enabling access via mobile devices. Following in the footsteps of the gauges is the Mobile Event Dashboard, the mobile device equivalent of the Event Dashboard. From a TIP perspective there is little additional effort to set-up the Mobile Event Dashboard, just a case of checking the Mobile Device Access check-box from Edit Shared Settings. A dedicated URL must be shared with those needing to connect to the Mobile Event Dashboard, this is available when you re-enter the shared settings.
How does it function? Somewhat lethargically in my tests! The solution includes equivalent features to the monitor-boxes, light-weight event list and information window (for displaying details, fields and journal entries). The data is displayed clearly in all windows and navigation is smooth but slow.
Probably the main drawback from a usability perspective is that it’s read-only. It is not possible to run any tools from the event list. So, for example, events cannot be acknowledged or escalated from a mobile device. The lack of that function does limit its uses. But, I guess, for those on call or managing a team even the ability to check events whilst on the move is a big advantage.
